How DEXA prices are quoted
The price of a DEXA scan depends on the centre and on how many areas are measured, usually the lower spine and the hip. We send you the partner centre's current price in AED on WhatsApp before you book.
Before your DEXA scan
Wear comfortable clothes without metal zips, buckles or buttons. If you take calcium supplements, you will usually be asked not to take them for at least a day before the scan. Tell the centre if you are or might be pregnant, and if you have recently had a barium test or contrast dye for a CT or nuclear medicine scan: barium and contrast can affect the measurement, so the scan may need to wait 10 to 14 days.
Referral and results
A DEXA scan is usually requested by a doctor. The result is reported as a T-score and a Z-score, and your doctor reviews it together with your other risk factors.
